“I only want to complete my mission and finish the work that the Lord Jesus gave me to do, which is to declare the Good News about the grace of God.” Acts 20:24 (GNT)
God put you on earth to do five important things. He wants you to know and love him, to love others, to grow to spiritual maturity, and to serve him by serving others. The fifth purpose of life—which we’ll look at today—is to tell others about God.
The apostle Paul said, “I only want to complete my mission and finish the work that the Lord Jesus gave me to do, which is to declare the Good News about the grace of God” (Acts 20:24 GNT).
What was the work that Jesus gave Paul to do? To tell everyone the “Good News about the grace of God.” That was Paul’s mission in the world, and it’s your mission too. The Bible calls this “evangelism” or “witnessing.”
A witness is a person who says, “This is what I saw. This is what happened to me.” And they are an authority on one thing: themselves. No one but you can be a witness for what God has done in your life. Only you can say, “This is what Christ has done in my life, in my family, in my job, in my health, and in my finances.”
Who first told you the Good News—that through Jesus, God has “made peace between us and himself” (2 Corinthians 5:18 NCV)? Are you just going to accept this Good News and not share it with anyone else? Someone passed it on to you. Now it’s your responsibility—your mission—to pass it on to others.
What does the Bible say about people who witness to others? Proverbs 11:30 says, “The fruit of a righteous person is a tree of life, and a winner of souls is wise” (GW). Telling people about Jesus is a mark of spiritual maturity. It shows that you are wise.
I want to ask you a very important question: Is anyone going to be in heaven because of you? Whether you’ve been a Christian 30 years or 30 days, Jesus wants you to tell others about him, telling everyone you meet “about the grace of God” and the eternal life he has to offer.
Who first told you about Jesus? How did you respond?
What fears or hang-ups keep you from consistently witnessing to others about Jesus?
Who can you tell this week about the Good News of Jesus? Take time right now to plan out when, where, and how you will tell them.
